Justin J. Scharff is a rising star in SLG’s New York City office. He is a 2020 graduate from Touro Law Center, where he completed his studies with honors as the Class Valedictorian.
During his law studies, Justin received CALI Awards for Academic Excellence in subject areas that are particularly important for clients of the firm, including Contract Law, Evidence, and Copyright. He also was awarded the Best Oral Advocate award in Legal Process.
In addition to excelling in his legal studies, Justin held the prestigious role of Issue Editor on the Touro Law Review. As an outstanding citizen of the law school, Justin received awards for Exemplary Dedication and Service to the Law Center for Exceptional Contributions to the Touro Law Review; the Moot Court Honors Board of Advocates; and to the Growth of the Law Center.
Justin further polished his intellectual property and writing chops by researching and writing two published Law Review articles in substantive areas that are especially relevant for SLG clients: Why and How the Issue of Copyright Registration Made its Way Up to the Supreme Court, 34 Touro L. Rev. 1319 (2019) and The Copyrightability of Fictional Characters, 35 Touro L. Rev. 1291 (2020).
While a recent graduate, Justin honed his legal research, writing, and advocacy skills during externships at the United States Attorney’s Office and with Magistrate Judge Anne Y. Shields of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York. Both legal positions provided Justin with invaluable experience and a unique insight on the inner workings of the court system, which Justin brings to bear for clients of the firm.
At SLG, Justin engages in drafting complex business and intellectual property agreements, detailed client memoranda, real estate matters, and legal research and drafting litigation documents for technology, retail, and music clients.
Justin’s drive, knowledge, and ambition make him an integral asset to the SLG team.
